Signs that can be physically observed or felt include: redness, swelling, decreased range of motion, and loss of strength.
Symptoms that cannot be seen include: pain, discomfort, aching, numbness, tingling, burning, stiffness, and fatigue.
If a worker experiences symptoms of a MSI, the supervisor must be informed, and the worker should report to the first aid attendant for medical attention.
Signs and symptoms of MSI may appear suddenly from a single event (Acute MSI), or they may appear gradually over time (Chronic MSI). Workers must be trained:
Not to ignore early signs and symptoms of MSI.
How to properly report their signs and systems.
To seek treatment to prevent the injury from getting worse.
